SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK RELEASES FIRST EVER HOLIDAY VIDEO OF “SILENT NIGHT” SINGLE
December 18, 2014, New York, NY…Grammy Award-nominated and internationally revered a cappella ensemble, SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK have released their first ever holiday video to follow up their single release and rendition of the classic Christmas carol, “Silent Night.” The documentary style video features compelling still images that depict the national and global public outcry, demonstrations, protests and unprecedented worldwide media attention which were jettisoned by the killings of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO., and Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York, along with the recent alarming deaths of several other unarmed Black males and youth at the hands of police in many other cities across the country.
SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK, who are closing out the celebration of the 40th Anniversary this year have built an unflappable legacy as committed activists. They have used their art form and voices to defend civil rights, social justice, equality and freedom for all throughout their sterling career.
In a message encrypted in the video, Sweet Honey states, “During this very troubling and turbulent holiday season, we stand with the millions of Americans and people around the world who believe there can be no peace without justice and that black lives and all lives matter. We send our prayers and dedicate our rendition of “Silent Night” and this video to all the families and communities who are grieving over the loss of a loved one. We must continue to demand that our collective voices are heard and will not be silenced until true justice and peace prevails.”
The “Silent Night” video is a SHE-ROCKS 5, Inc. production, which was edited by Kate Peterson for Pleasantly Progressive Design. “Silent Night” is performed by the ensemble’s core members, Louise Robinson, Carol Maillard, Nitanju Bolade Casel and Aisha Kahlil. Nitanju Bolade Casel produced the song, which was recorded, mixed and mastered at Airshow Studios, Takoma Park, MD by Chief Engineer Charlie Pilzer. The single was released by Sweet Honey’s independently owned record label, SHE-ROCKS 5, Inc. Sweet Honey has been performing “Silent Night” on their current run of seasonal performances this month entitled, SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK: CELEBRATING THE HOLYDAYS. Their final performance of the year will be at NJPAC in Newark, NJ this Saturday, December 20, 2014.
